- 本日討論重點:stress-free
- "free" meaning "without" or "free from" 沒有
- stress-free means without stress 沒有壓力 - ex: suger-free : without suger = sugarless
Q:What's the difference between adjective ending in "-less" and those ending in "-free"?
A:Actually in this particular example, there is a little different, we can use either sugarless or sugar-free when we describe food, but normally we can only use one or the other. So in most cases, only one is impossible. 通常不同的字有特定的不同字尾的用法
ex:
‧duty-free
‧homeless
‧trouble-free - When "-less" is added to verb, such as "count" and "harm", it means that the action can not be done. 當"-less"加在動詞之後,表示無法作某事
ex:
‧countless 無法計算的
--countless stars in the sky: means there are too many stars in the sky to count.
‧harmless 無害的
