【Chat Room】
  • fist:(將手(hand)握起變成)拳頭
  • slap:用手(hand)打人,摑一巴掌
    - If you use open hand to heat someone, you are slapping the person.
  • punch:用拳頭打人 use them with a close fist
  • punch the clock:上下班打卡
    punch in/out:簽到/簽退
  • pull punches:委婉的批評,但通常用於否定句子中,意指說話很直接
    ex: So what did you think of my performance, don't pull any punches.(不要有所保留)
    - "Pull punches" means to hold back, but this phrase is usually used in the negative. If you are person who doesn't pull any punches, it means you tell the truth directly.
    We usually used it for like doctors. Instead of keeping back information, they will tell you just how sick you really are, or in this bad economy, if the boss tells his employee just how bad perhaps the situation for your company is, he is not pulling any punches, but tell it at all.

【Language Tips】

  1. state-of-the-art adj. 藝術的境界,意指最先進的,最高級的,通常用來形容某種科技產品
    ex:
    1. They use state-of-the-art recording equipment at their studio.
    2. The museum uses a state-of-the-art secutity system.
  2. opposition n. 反對,抵抗;對方的隊伍,對手(本文意義)(※"the" opposition 集合n. 指整個團體)
    (v. oppose 反對,抵抗)
    ex: The opposition has a strong defense, so today's game is going to be tough.
  3. spar v. 拳鬥,輕拳出擊(例句1);爭吵,爭執(例句2)
    (sparring. sparred)
    ex:
    1. The two boxeser were sparring to test each other.
    2. This newlywed couple(新婚夫妻) are sparring over minor things(芝麻小事) again.
